Job Description: Mechanical Engineer – Kraft/Tissue Paper Manufacturing
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer to oversee the reliability, maintenance, and performance of mechanical equipment within a Kraft or tissue paper manufacturing facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring safe and efficient plant operations, minimizing equipment downtime, supporting maintenance activities, and contributing to continuous improvement projects. The role requires strong technical knowledge of paper mill machinery, preventive maintenance systems, troubleshooting, and team coordination.
Key Responsibilities
• Plan, coordinate, and supervise mechanical maintenance activities across the paper mill.
• Ensure reliable operation of equipment such as paper machines, stock preparation systems, pulpers, refiners, pumps, compressors, boilers, turbines, conveyors, dryers, and utility systems.
• Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
• Diagnose mechanical failures and recommend effective corrective actions.
• Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to reduce downtime and maintenance costs.
• Support shutdown, turnaround, installation, commissioning, and plant improvement projects.
• Review technical drawings, equipment specifications, manuals, and maintenance procedures.
• Coordinate with production, electrical, instrumentation, and safety teams.
• Manage contractors and ensure work is completed according to approved standards.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records, reports, and spare-parts requirements.
• Ensure compliance with company safety procedures, environmental standards, and applicable regulations.
• Lead root-cause analysis and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Provide technical guidance, coaching, and supervision to maintenance personnel.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 10 years of experience in Kraft or tissue paper manufacturing.
• Strong experience in mechanical maintenance within a paper mill environment.
• Practical knowledge of paper machines, rotating equipment, pumps, gearboxes, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems, steam systems, and industrial utilities.
• Experience with preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance practices.
• Proven ability to troubleshoot mechanical equipment and conduct root-cause analysis.
• Experience in shutdown planning, maintenance budgeting, spare-parts management, and contractor supervision.
• Familiarity with CMMS or computerized maintenance management systems.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.
• Knowledge of workplace safety, risk assessment, permit-to-work systems, and environmental requirements.
• Strong leadership, communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and coordinate with multidisciplinary teams.
• Proficiency in standard engineering and Microsoft Office software.
• Professional engineering certification or membership in a recognized engineering body is an advantage.
• Willingness to work shifts, respond to breakdowns, and support planned shutdown activities when required.
