About this role
Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Consultant Cardiothoracic Surgeon to join a leading tertiary healthcare facility in Dubai. The successful candidate will provide high-quality surgical care for patients with cardiac, thoracic, and cardiothoracic conditions, participate in multidisciplinary decision-making, and contribute to the development of a high-performing cardiovascular surgery service.
The consultant will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, operative management, and postoperative care of complex cardiothoracic patients while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, clinical governance, and evidence-based practice.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide specialist consultation, diagnosis and comprehensive management of patients requiring cardiothoracic surgical intervention.
* Perform appropriate adult cardiac, thoracic and cardiothoracic surgical procedures according to approved clinical privileges and individual expertise.
* Manage patients with coronary artery disease, valvular heart disease, aortic disease, thoracic pathology and other complex cardiothoracic conditions.
* Perform and/or participate in:
* Coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG)
* Valve surgery and valve repair/replacement
* Aortic and major vascular procedures
* Thoracic surgical procedures
* Minimally invasive cardiothoracic procedures where appropriately trained
* Emergency cardiothoracic surgery where applicable
* Conduct comprehensive preoperative assessment and formulate individualized surgical plans.
* Provide postoperative management, including recognition and management of surgical complications.
* Work closely with cardiologists, intensivists, anesthesiologists, radiologists and other multidisciplinary teams.
* Participate in Heart Team / multidisciplinary cardiovascular meetings and complex case discussions.
* Provide expert second opinions for complex cardiothoracic cases.
* Maintain accurate and timely medical records, operative notes and discharge documentation.
* Participate in on-call and emergency services according to departmental requirements.
* Maintain appropriate surgical logs and demonstrate ongoing procedural competency.
* Participate in morbidity and mortality meetings, clinical audits and quality-improvement initiatives.
* Support development and implementation of clinical protocols and pathways.
* Participate in teaching, mentoring and supervision of residents, fellows and junior medical staff.
* Contribute to research, publications, conferences and continuing professional development.
* Comply with DHA regulations, UAE healthcare legislation, hospital policies and international patient-safety standards.
Essential Qualifications
* MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical degree from an accredited institution.
* Recognized postgraduate qualification in Cardiothoracic Surgery / Cardiovascular Surgery / Cardiac Surgery / Thoracic Surgery, as applicable.
* Recognized specialist/consultant-level training appropriate to the proposed scope of practice.
* Valid DHA eligibility/license or eligibility to obtain a DHA Consultant license.
* Relevant post-specialty experience at Consultant level.
* Demonstrated recent and substantial operative experience relevant to the position.
* Current professional registration/license and Good Standing Certificate.
* Appropriate malpractice/indemnity coverage in accordance with institutional requirements.
Experience Requirements
* Candidates should demonstrate:
* Extensive post-specialty experience in cardiothoracic surgery.
* Strong recent operative exposure in the relevant surgical field.
* Experience managing complex cardiac and/or thoracic surgical patients.
* Experience in a tertiary-care or academic hospital environment is preferred.
* Demonstrated multidisciplinary working experience with cardiology, cardiac anesthesia, cardiac ICU and allied specialties.
* Experience in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement.
Preferred Profile
* Tier 1 internationally recognized qualification and training.
* Fellowship/subspecialty training in cardiac surgery, thoracic surgery, aortic surgery, minimally invasive cardiac surgery or another relevant subspecialty.
* Experience in a high-volume tertiary cardiovascular center.
* Strong surgical outcomes and documented operative portfolio.
* Academic publications, presentations or involvement in clinical research.
* Teaching and supervision experience.
* Previous experience working within an internationally accredited healthcare organization.
